This is our next installment of the coaches blog with our full time coach Rachel Mowat. We hope you enjoy reading how Rachel got into coaching and what she gets up to in our working week!
My first experience of Links was when I joined the team for work experience in college, during this time I had my first experience of coaching disabled participants in sport. This experience made me very determined to carry on working with Links and further my coaching experience, which lead me to carry on volunteering throughout the summer and the rest of my college year. I worked with many ages and ability during the summer camps which excelled myself as a coach and gave me the knowledge to further persist in this career. As I found coaching such a rewarding job and loved seeing the enjoyment on the participants faces. While at college I gained a few coaches badges enabling myself to work for Links as a part time coach during university. Throughout university I coached numerous after school clubs at various schools giving me the opportunity to work with different age groups, coach numerous sports and progress as a professional within the school environment. I have now finished university and working for Links full time as a coach, I currently working in schools doing CPD training, so that in further terms primary school teachers will feel more confident to plan and deliver PE in curriculum. I love every single minute of my work with Links as I am always learning but also feel a huge amount of pride when seeing the participants and teacher progress. In all leading to everyone having a positive experience within PE and physical activity.
We hope you have enjoyed reading about Rachel’s career in sport and hopefully it will give you an idea of how you too can get a career in the sport industry. We will have many more of these blogs coming in the coming weeks from a variety of roles within Links SSP.
